Ancient trees stood still in prayer, While whispers drifted through the air. Many men and women passed me by, With silent faces and wandering eyes. From where they came, I could not tell; To where they journeyed, none would reveal. At last I found an ancient inn, Hidden where the shadows had always been. Inside, the travelers spoke with ease, While candles trembled in the ghostly breeze. Yet something strange disturbed my mind— The keeper of the inn I could not find. His empty chair stood by the fire, Guarding an unseen, endless desire. Then silence swallowed every sound. The room grew colder all around.
