The Road I Mistook for Light — English–Arabic Version الطريق الذي ظننته نورًا Writing The Road I Mistook for Light الطريق الذي ظننته نورًا Poem / قصيدة English Why did I become a fool, Though knowledge lived within my mind? I knew the road I should have taken, Yet left the truthful path behind. I saw a road that seemed so bright, And called its brightness guiding light; But perhaps it was merely noise, A crowded world dressed up as right. So many people walked that way, And therefore I believed it true; I heard the footsteps of the crowd, But lost the voice that spoke within me. I had knowledge, but lacked wisdom; I had eyes, but failed to see. I knew the roads before my footsteps, Yet could not choose the road for me. Now I stand beside the crossroads, Looking back at days gone by. I wonder if the road I've lost Can ever meet my path again. Can yesterday return to me? Can lost moments rise once more? Can someone who has walked astray Become the person they were before?...
