The term Hossain Brahmin (sometimes also called “Hussaini Brahmin”) refers to a unique community or group of Hindu Brahmins who are historically associated with the memory of Imam Hossain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). They are believed to have shown solidarity with Imam Hossain during the tragic battle of Karbala in 680 AD. Where did they live? Traditionally, the Hossain Brahmins have been found in parts of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
