Quick Revision
Physics — Semiconductor Electronics
Semiconductor conductivity lies between that of a conductor and an insulator.
Silicon and germanium are important semiconductor materials.
Intrinsic semiconductor: number of electrons = number of holes.
p-type semiconductor: produced using a trivalent impurity.
Diodes are widely used for rectification.
Chemistry — Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids
Aldehyde functional group = –CHO.
Carboxylic acid functional group = –COOH.
Aldehydes and ketones contain the carbonyl group (>C=O).
CH₃CHO = ethanal, an aldehyde.
CH₃COCH₃ = propanone, a ketone.
Biology — Environmental Issues
Carbon dioxide contributes significantly to the greenhouse effect.
Ozone protects organisms from harmful UV radiation.
SO₂ and nitrogen oxides contribute to acid rain.
BOD indicates the level of organic pollution in water.
Vegetable waste is generally biodegradable.
Concept Booster
1. Semiconductor Electronics
A semiconductor is neither a perfect conductor nor a perfect insulator.
Its electrical behaviour can be modified by adding a small quantity of suitable impurities. This process is called doping.
Intrinsic Semiconductor
A pure semiconductor is called an intrinsic semiconductor.
At a given temperature:
Number of electrons = Number of holes
Extrinsic Semiconductor
When impurities are intentionally added, an extrinsic semiconductor is formed.
Two important types are:
n-type → donor impurity → electrons are majority carriers
p-type → acceptor impurity → holes are majority carriers
Remember these relationships carefully for NEET.
2. Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids
This chapter is important for understanding carbonyl chemistry.
Aldehyde
General representation:
R–CHO
The carbonyl group is located at the end of the carbon chain.
Ketone
General representation:
R–CO–R′
The carbonyl carbon is bonded to two carbon-containing groups.
Carboxylic Acid
General representation:
R–COOH
For NEET, pay attention to:
Nomenclature
Preparation
Physical properties
Chemical reactions
Oxidation
Reduction
Nucleophilic addition
Acidity of carboxylic acids
Important named reactions
Do not learn reactions as isolated facts. Try to understand the functional-group transformation.
3. Environmental Issues
Environmental Biology is highly connected to everyday life.
Important topics include:
Air pollution
Water pollution
Soil pollution
Noise pollution
Greenhouse effect
Global warming
Ozone depletion
Acid rain
Solid waste management
Eutrophication
Biomagnification
BOD
Radioactive pollution
Remember
Greenhouse effect → warming of the Earth
Ozone depletion → increased UV exposure
Acid rain → mainly SO₂ and nitrogen oxides
High BOD → greater organic pollution
Practice Challenge
Try answering these without looking at the answers.
1.
What is a semiconductor?
2.
What is an intrinsic semiconductor?
3.
Which type of impurity produces a p-type semiconductor?
4.

What is the difference between an aldehyde and a ketone?
6.
What functional group is present in carboxylic acids?
7.

Daily Study Strategy
Physics
Concept → Formula → MCQs → Numericals → Error Analysis
For Semiconductor Electronics, draw simple diagrams of:
Intrinsic semiconductor
n-type semiconductor
p-type semiconductor
p-n junction
Diode characteristics
Drawing the structure yourself can improve conceptual recall.
Chemistry
Create a reaction map:
Aldehyde → Oxidation → Carboxylic Acid
Aldehyde/Ketone → Reduction → Alcohol
Then revise the reagents and conditions.
Practice questions based on reaction identification and product prediction.
Biology
For Environmental Issues, make a cause-and-effect table:
Environmental Issue
Major Cause/Association
Greenhouse effect
Greenhouse gases
Ozone depletion
Ozone-depleting substances
Acid rain
SO₂ and nitrogen oxides
Water pollution
Organic and other pollutants
High BOD
High organic pollution
Biomagnification
Persistent pollutants through food chains
Important NEET Habit
When revising Biology, don't merely read the paragraph repeatedly.
Use active recall.
Close the book and ask yourself:
What causes this problem?
What is its effect?
What is the biological mechanism?
What example is given in NCERT?
What prevention or control method is mentioned?
This method can reveal gaps that passive reading may hide.
Motivation
Preparation does not become strong simply because you study for many hours.
The quality of those hours matters.
One hour of focused study can be more productive than several hours of distracted study.
Try to make every study session have a clear purpose.
For example:
Today I will understand p-n junctions.
Today I will revise aldehyde reactions.
Today I will complete the NCERT section on ozone depletion.
A specific target is easier to measure than a vague goal such as:
“I will study Chemistry today.”
Small, measurable targets create visible progress.
Six-Step Learning Cycle
1. Understand
Learn the concept from NCERT and your trusted study material.
2. Recall
Close the book and reproduce the concept from memory.
3. Practise
Solve MCQs.
4. Analyse
Identify why each wrong answer occurred.
5. Revise
Return to the relevant concept.
6. Retest
Solve similar questions after a gap.
The objective is not just to finish the syllabus.
The objective is to make the knowledge retrievable under examination conditions.
