Poem Title: If Mother Anjali Leaves the Land If Mother Anjali leaves this soil, What shall become of dawn’s first smile? Who will light the courtyard lamp, Who will bless the dust awhile? If she departs beyond the gate, Taking songs the rivers knew, Will the mango tree still bloom, Will the sky remain so blue? How shall I sleep on restless nights, With no soft footsteps near the door? How shall I stay within this world, When home feels home no more? Her hands were seasons made of grace, Her voice, the rain on summer grain, Her silence taught the wounded heart How to bear and rise through pain. If she leaves, the walls will ask, “Where has gone our living prayer?” Even shadows in the hall Will search for her lingering care. Yet perhaps no mother leaves— Not by road, nor sea, nor time.
