Part 3: Lessons from Conservation, Human Responsibility, and Living with Wildlife Human–Tiger Conflict: Why Encounters Are Increasing In many parts of Asia, forests that were once vast and uninterrupted have gradually become smaller because of expanding towns, roads, agriculture, and other human activities. As natural habitats shrink, the boundaries between people and wildlife become less clear. Tigers depend on healthy forests, sufficient prey, and secure territories. When these natural requirements are disturbed, they may occasionally move closer to villages, farms, or tourist areas. Such situations increase the likelihood of accidental encounters between humans and tigers.
