"The Horse Rode Away, But We Were Left Hanging"
Poem (English–Urdu)
Kya zarurat thi tumhein aisa karne ki,
Why was there any need to do this?
Aasaan zindagi ko pareshan karne ki?
Why turn a peaceful life into a troubled one?
Tum ghoray par aaye thay fakhr ke saath,
You arrived on horseback, carrying pride and promise.
Umeedon ke diye dil mein jala gaye.
You lit the lamps of hope within our hearts.
Har muskurahat ek nayi subah lagti thi,
Every smile felt like the beginning of a new dawn.
Har baat mein ek naya khwab chhupa tha.
Every word carried the seed of a new dream.
Magar ek din tum usi ghoray par chalay gaye,
But one day, you departed on the very same horse.
Palat kar humein dekha bhi nahin.
You did not even turn back to look at us.
Aur hum darakht par jhoolte reh gaye,
While we remained hanging from the tree,
Apni tanhaai aur dard ke saath.
Alone with our loneliness and pain.
Yeh jhoolna maut nahin,
This hanging is not death,
Balkeh toote hue aitbaar ki misaal hai.
It is the symbol of broken trust.
Phir bhi darakht humein sabr sikhata hai,
Yet the tree teaches us patience.
Har aandhi ke baad phir se hara ho jata hai.
After every storm, it becomes green again.
Jo chalay jaate hain woh yaadein ban jaate hain,
Those who leave become memories,
Aur jo reh jaate hain woh mazboot ban jaate hain.
Those who stay become stronger.
Philosophical Analysis
This poem reflects the painful reality of broken expectations. The horse symbolises pride, hope, success, and arrival. It represents people who enter our lives with confidence and promises but eventually leave.
The tree represents patience, endurance, and resilience. Remaining "hanging from the tree" is a metaphor for emotional suffering rather than a literal event. It expresses the feeling of being trapped in grief while life continues around us.
In Buddhist philosophy, attachment often leads to suffering. Stoic philosophy teaches that while we cannot control the actions of others, we can control our response. Therefore, pain can become the foundation of wisdom and personal growth.

When the Rider Leaves Behind Silence
Life does not become difficult only because of enemies; often, it changes because of those who once entered our lives with kindness, confidence, and promises. Their arrival feels like the beginning of a beautiful journey, but their departure leaves questions that echo for years.
"Tum ghoray par aaye thay... aur usi ghoray par chalay gaye. Hum darakht par jhoolte reh gaye." This striking image symbolises the contrast between those who move on with ease and those who remain carrying the weight of memories.
The horse is a timeless symbol of movement, ambition, and victory. The tree, in contrast, stands for patience, endurance, and silent strength. Although storms shake its branches, its roots remain firm. In the same way, people who endure pain often discover a strength they never knew they possessed.
This is not merely a story of loss; it is a reminder that even the deepest wounds can become the beginning of wisdom, resilience, and a new chapter in life.
