What Shall I Do?
What shall I do,
your scarf is so small,
I cannot hide completely
beneath its gentle fall.
Yet when the world feels wide,
and loneliness surrounds me,
I come closer to you,
because your little shelter comforts me.
I know your scarf cannot
cover every wound I carry.
It cannot change my past,
or make every tomorrow certain.
Still, beneath its shadow,
my restless heart finds peace.
What shall I do
when my sorrow is enormous
and your shelter is small?
Should I blame the scarf,
or should I understand
that even a little shelter
can save a tired heart from despair?
I do not need you
to hide the entire world for me.
Just leave a little space
where I can breathe,
where I can bring my tears,
my unfinished dreams,
and my hidden fears.
Love cannot erase every pain.
Sometimes love simply says:
“You are not alone.”
And sometimes
those four words
are large enough
to hold an entire universe.
Your scarf may be small,
but the peace I find beneath it
is larger than any palace.
So I will not ask
your little scarf
to cover my entire life.
I will simply stand beside you.
And if there is
a little room for me

I will call that little space
