I do not know when I shall be free,

مجھے نہیں معلوم کہ میں کب آزاد ہوں گا،

When these unseen chains will release me.

جب یہ ان دیکھی زنجیریں مجھے چھوڑ دیں گی۔

No iron bars surround my life,

میری زندگی کے گرد لوہے کی سلاخیں نہیں ہیں،

Yet I remain a prisoner of silent strife.

پھر بھی میں خاموش جدوجہد کا قیدی ہوں۔

This is no prison built by the state,

یہ کوئی سرکاری جیل نہیں،

No judge declared my fate.

کسی جج نے میری قسمت کا فیصلہ نہیں کیا۔

Yet helpless, I sit and wait,

پھر بھی بے بس ہو کر بیٹھا انتظار کرتا ہوں،

As though sorrow has locked my gate.

گویا غم نے میرے دروازے پر تالا لگا دیا ہو۔

Floods rush by and storms arise,

سیلاب گزرتے ہیں اور طوفان اٹھتے ہیں،

Yet tears still gather in my eyes.

پھر بھی میری آنکھوں میں آنسو جمع رہتے ہیں۔

Why does pain refuse to depart?

درد جانے سے انکار کیوں کرتا ہے؟

Why does grief still haunt my heart?

غم اب بھی میرے دل کا تعاقب کیوں کرتا ہے؟

Perhaps these walls are made of fear,

شاید یہ دیواریں خوف سے بنی ہیں،

And memories that linger near.

اور ان یادوں سے جو قریب ہی رہتی ہیں۔

Yet beyond the darkness, a star remains,

پھر بھی اندھیرے کے پار ایک ستارہ موجود ہے،

Whispering hope through all my pains.

جو میرے تمام دردوں میں امید کی سرگوشی کرتا ہے۔

For every prison has a key somewhere,

And every soul deserves fresh air.
