پھر بھی میں آیا اس سنسان رات۔

I climbed the roof of the old dead house,

میں چڑھ گیا اس پرانے ویران گھر کی چھت پر۔

جہاں سائے خاموشی سے گھومتے تھے۔

The moon was pale, the stars were weak,

چاند زرد تھا، ستارے مدھم تھے۔

The broken tiles cried under my feet,

میرے قدموں تلے ٹوٹی ٹائلیں کراہ اٹھیں۔

I stood where once your laughter lived,

میں وہاں کھڑا تھا جہاں کبھی تیری ہنسی بسی تھی۔

چیلے خانے کی کھڑکی خوف سے کانپ اٹھی۔

وہ چھت جس نے ماضی کو یاد رکھا: ہم ٹوٹی جگہوں پر کیوں لوٹتے ہیں
